Formed in 2007, the State Equality Fund (SEF) is a collaboration of funders of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equal rights: the Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund, the Gill Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and anonymous donors.

Since its development, SEF has invested $14.5 million in 148 unique projects. Thanks to the hard work of SEF grantees, the track record has been impressive: 68% of the grants contributed to a successful outcome.

In 2015, after careful consideration of the evolving landscape of the LGBT movement, the SEF funders decided to wind down this collaborative funding program. The SEF collaborative will continue to support multi-year projects that are in process, but will not be accepting any additional LOI’s or proposals.

Each of the funders of the SEF collaborative remains deeply committed to state-based work and looks forward to future partnerships with SEF grantees.
