As vice president of communications, Heidi Overbeck is responsible for leading a coordinated communications strategy to secure equal treatment for LGBT Americans, building the communications capacity of the foundation’s staff and grantees, and developing a strategic framework to guide and evaluate the foundation’s communications investments.
Prior to joining the foundation, Heidi was a vice president at BerlinRosen, one of the nation’s leading social impact and issue advocacy PR firms, where she served as a senior communications strategist to movement leaders on LGBT rights, women’s rights, immigrant rights, public health, and conservation. Her previous experience includes leading national communications campaigns at Fenton, directing voter outreach for U.S. Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, serving as a legislative aide in the Maine House of Representatives, and running the preservation program at Environment Maine.
Heidi has served on the boards of the Women’s Information Network of New York City, Emerge New Jersey, and Emerge Maine. She was also selected to be a creative writing mentor with Girls Write Now, a New York City nonprofit supporting underserved high school girls in finding their voices and sharing their stories through creative writing.
Heidi graduated magna cum laude from Colorado College, where she earned a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing. She has been the recipient of several creative writing awards, and her work has been published in the Hudson Review. Born and raised in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, Heidi now lives in Denver with her family.
