Gill Foundation Releases 2019 Annual Report

.

Friends,

.

In 2019, the Gill Foundation celebrated 25 years of advancing equality for LGBT Americans. Tim launched the foundation in 1994 in the aftermath of a state amendment that made it legal to discriminate against gay people. The journey since then has been incredible, from winning marriage equality to growing the number of states that protect LGBT people from discrimination. But as we look back on the accomplishments of 2019, nothing could have prepared us for the current state of the world.

As we release our 2019 annual report in 2020, our country is in upheaval from the COVID-19 pandemic and the long-overdue reckoning of racial injustice in the United States. In a time of such profound uncertainty, it can be difficult to celebrate victories. And yet a watershed moment in LGBT equality occurred this year too when the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a ruling that protects LGBT people nationwide from discrimination in the workplace, a victory that activists, donors, and allies have been working on for decades.

As we steel ourselves for the challenges and work ahead, we hope this report offers some solace and motivation. As always, we’re in this fight together.
