Amendment 2 Found Unconstitutional

In a huge win for LGBT rights, the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down Amendment 2 as a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.

A damaging blow follows, however, when President Clinton signs the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), excluding same-sex couples from the protections and benefits of marriage.

Recognizing the ongoing need to build public acceptance of LGBT people, the Gill Foundation launches the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, supporting a variety of causes to demonstrate that LGBT people share the same values as the rest of the community. One of GLFC’s first grants is $1 million to help build the Denver Aquarium.

The Gill Foundation also hosts its first OutGiving Conference to create a network of likeminded donors and increase philanthropy to LGBT causes.
